Alfie Home, NZ, made in Portugal

Made in Portugal - a conscious choice

Alfie Home, NZ, made in Portugal

When we set out to create Alfie, we knew we wanted our collection to be made in premium linen with a luxurious, soft feel. Not all linen is created equal, and we searched extensively to find a manufacturer providing high quality fabrications and beautiful workmanship, combined with transparency and evidence of their ethical and environmental credentials.

It was an extensive search, but we discovered a family-owned textile factory in Portugal that has been in operation for over 100 years - weaving, dying, printing and sewing linen, one of the world's oldest and most sustainable textiles. They have a strong commitment to sustainability and are SMETA Standards certified (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit), which is a social audit of labour practices, health and safety, environment and business ethics.

Their linen is made from 100% European flax, which is sourced in Belgium and France and then woven in Portugal. When the first samples came through, we knew we’d found our manufacturing partner! The linen was beautifully crafted and buttery soft.

The wonderful team in Portugal worked closely with us to perfect the final custom colours you see in our Alfie range. Every detail was considered, right down to the natural Japanese Agoya buttons used on our duvet covers. Every single component used - fabric, dyes, thread, buttons - is OEKO TEX certified, which means nothing nasty! It is all tested and certified to be free from substances harmful to human health.

When you purchase Alfie linen, you are bringing a premium, sustainable fibre into your home that we hope will become a treasured favourite. And don’t forget to have fun with your bed linen! Mix and match your Alfie pillowslips, duvet covers, cushions and quilts with existing and new bed linen pieces to keep things equal parts playful and beautiful.
